Goods worth millions of shillings are piling up in Nairobi after rioting youths ripped off a section of the railway line that serves Western Kenya and neighbouring countries.
The Kenya-Uganda Railway concessionaire, Rift Valley Railways (RVR), will repair the one kilometre section within Nairobi's Kibera slums.
With the latest disruption, RVR says it would suffer losses running to more than Sh10 million.
The line was destroyed by rioting youths on Tuesday.
RVR is, however, optimistic that normal services to Western Kenya and Uganda will resume by tomorrow afternoon as engineers were repairing the line.
The firm's managing director, Mr Roy Puffett, implored political leaders to educate their supporters on the economic importance of the railway line.
"We are calling on political leaders to eduacte their supporters on the railway's importance," Puffett said.
A similar incidence was witnessed during violence that erupted after the release of the disputed presidential election results.
The company spent more than Sh12 million to repair the damaged line.
